Why this position exists
The Survival and Flourishing Fund has recommended grants totaling over $150 million over the past seven years, and that number continues to grow. We run multiple concurrent programs year-round, and received over 200 applications in the most recent cycle. To keep up with this increased scale and complexity, we need someone dedicated to maintaining, improving, and gradually modernizing our technical infrastructure while ensuring zero disruption to our grant recommendation activities.
Duties of the position
This position will involve full-time technical operations work, in collaboration with CEO Ethan Ashkie, Lead Engineer Joel Burget, and Grants Coordinator Julia Kerley. Activities will include:
- Maintaining and debugging existing Google Apps Script automations used for grant processing
- Evaluating and implementing new tools or automations to replace manual processes and to support new grant programs
- Managing user access, permissions, and security across all SFC systems
- Helping out with grant coordination and processing, especially during busy periods
- Responding to urgent technical issues and providing day-to-day technical support
- Training team members on new tools and documenting workflows for sustainability
- Meeting with Ethan and other team members as needed (3-8 hours a week)
- Being a team player! Running any project sometimes involves tasks that are not exciting. On the margin, we want team members who are excited to chip in and do whatever is needed to keep things moving for our client(s) (currently Jaan Tallinn).
We expect the focus for this role to be about 80% on technical systems maintenance and automation, and 20% on operational support and grant processing.
Salary and benefits
Annual salary will be between $100,000 and $140,000 and can be negotiated based on experience and qualifications. This is a full-time position.
Benefits include:
- Fully funded individual health, vision, and dental insurance
- Majority premium coverage for additional dependents
- Available health/wellness discounts and perks through the health insurance provider
- 6% Safe-Harbor 401(k) matching
- 9 weeks off per year, including PTO and holidays
- 12-week paid family leave
Organizational culture
SFC is a small team that works fully remotely; we do meet 2-4 times a year for an in-person week, usually in the Bay Area. We have a clear vision and are ready to execute, and we are looking for a pragmatic technical operations specialist to help us scale our impact without breaking our systems.
Work authorization
SFC does not have a standard process for applying for visas, but we can hire remote contractors to live and work outside the United States.
